　　Small-footprint直译是“足迹极小”，而根据词条的解释，我们可以看出，其实small-footprint中间是省略了carbon的。因此，这个词实际是“small carbon footprint living (碳足迹极小的生活)，也就是低碳生活。除了这种说法，low-carbon life也表达相同的意思。
